Reimbursement For Travel To/ From A VA Facility

When receiving care from VA, some veterans are eligible for travel expense compensation.  The allowances are 41.5 cents per mile up to a maximum of $18 with a $3 deductible for each one-way trip. 

Veterans eligible for travel reimbursement must meet on of the following criteria: have a service-connected disability rating of 30% or higher, be traveling for treatment of a service-connected condition, receives a VA pension, traveling for a scheduled pension or compensation examination, have a gross annual income that does not exceed the maximum annual VA pension or whose medical condition requires some special type of transportation such as a wheelchair accessible shuttle and are not able to cover the costs personally and have obtained pre-authorization unless in the case of an emergency.
